“mail/art/book”


A message from Jennie Hinchcliff to all members of Rubber Stamps on International Union of Mail-Artists!

 

“mail/art/book”

Artists are invited to submit work exploring the intersection between mail art and artists’ books, in whatever way, shape, or form that may take. Mail art, artistamps, artists’ books, and other artworks that can be mailed and relate to the theme of mail/art/books are encouraged.

 

POSTMARK DEADLINE: October 15th, 2013

FORMAT: work must be sent directly through the postal service. Please apply postage directly to your work. 

TECHNIQUE: All media & themes accepted including mixed media, collage, montage, sculpture, painting, printmaking, photography, etc.

 

NON-RETURNABLE. NO ENTRY FEE. ALL WORK WILL BE SHOWN.

Documentation in the form of an address list and zine will be sent to all participating artists. Please include your mailing address. The San Francisco Center for the Book will produce a print catalog of the exhibit which will be available for sale at the opening reception.

This show is curated by Jennie Hinchcliff and John Held Jr. and hosted by the San Francisco Center for the Book. Opening reception for “Mail/Art/Book” kicks off  the Ex Postal Facto Conference, Feb. 14-16, 2014.

By submitting artwork for this exhibit, you agree that both the San Francisco Center for the Book and Jennie Hinchcliff/Red Letter Day can photograph and use images of your work for future publication and press materials. Additionally, the artist also agrees that they will not receive any direct financial compensation from either San Francisco Center for the Book or Jennie Hinchcliff/Red Letter Day.

Mail Art Call: Hurricane

As a continuation of a project that was started in 2009, we are inviting any and all artists to submit work with the inspiration “Hurricane“. As the residents of the Gulf Coast, we are subjected to the threat of Hurricanes every year. The loss of life, homes and our dear coastline are always of utmost concern. This year we will partner with the Red Cross, a first response organization, to celebrate the love of art and our communities.

Please submit an "A5" sized postcard (210mm x 148mm/8.3" x 5.8" large sized postcard) on card stock (110, 0.16 oz, 33 to 26 ga.) the art work can be submitted via U.S.Postal Service. (If you prefer not to use the postcard format the scale of the art work dimensions artwork is not limited in size and may be sculptural to no more than 24"
Art work WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
Multiple submissions are accepted.

Please label all Diptychs, Triptychs, & Ghent Altar-pieces with corresponding numbers so that the art work can be correctly displayed with the artist's intention.

Art work WILL BE SOLD with proceeds going to the American Red Cross , Southeast Louisiana Chapter that is responsible for all parishes that have experienced loss during Hurricanes Katrina, Gustave and Issac. All Art Work will be available for show & sale on September 14, 2013 through October 12, 2013, at PPG, a fine art gallery,

All art work will be sold for $25.00 per piece regardless of the skill level, & ability of artists. (This exhibition is open to ALL visual , video or musical (Cds) artists.)
All art work MUST be signed on the back so that the art work cannot be identified by the buyer until AFTER the sale. (Please DO NOT SIGN THE FRONT OF THE ART WORK to prevent cherry picking.)

Artist Information on the back of the art work must include;
"Title..." Date... Media used... Printed Name... City of origin... Signature... (& optional contact information so that the buyer can view more of your art work after the sale.)
All art work must be received by the September 14th, 2013 to be included during “Art After Dark“ reception. Art work may be mailed as a postcard, envelope, or package, or may hand delivered on or before the 14th of September, 2013

All artists are invited to participate in a Mail Art Project and Exhibit to be held in conjunction with the The North Dallas Artist Studio Tour on April 26 and 27, 2014.   The studio tour brings together residents of the community and artists with the goal of creating a deeper understanding of the creative process and demonstrating the variety of forms that creativity can take.  Participants on the Tour and in the Mail Art Project seek to demonstrate that art adds meaning and richness to community life.

Submission Deadline is April 1, 2014

·      Original artwork only; no photocopies or reproductions
·      Postcards; 4” x 6” or 5” x 7”
·      All media and techniques welcome
·      Multiple entries allowed
·      Each entry must be individually submitted through the postal system; no email or online entries accepted.
·      No fees, no jury, no returns.

Please include your name, mailing address and email address with each work submitted. Title of the work and medium are encouraged but not required.
